Investigations
Fire Prevention Officers with St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 investigate fires to determine origin and cause. The Fire Prevention Bureau works closely with the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Slidell Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, on those cases where the crime of arson is suspected. All members of the Fire Prevention Bureau are commissioned St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Deputies.
In addition to ensuring that the crime of arson is minimized in St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1, the Bureau is aggressive in intervening and educating juveniles determined to be involved in fire play. Juvenile fire setters and their parents are educated as to the dangers and consequences of fire setting. Relationships with other agencies and organizations have been established to ensure that professional help is available to families when needed based on the opinion of Fire Prevention Officers.
