Five People Escape Early Morning House Fire

Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to the report of a residential structure fire at 325 Hickory Dr. in Slidell.  Firefighters arrived on the scene in less than 6 minutes to find a 1400 square foot home with heavy flames and smoke coming from the carport.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and bring the situation under control within 7 minutes of arriving on the scene.

A resident discovered the fire when he was awoken by flames flickering through a window.  All five occupants escaped just minutes prior to the fire spreading to the interior of the home, but two dogs perished in the fire.  A neighbor called 911 from a cell phone after seeing the fire.  The fire destroyed over fifty percent of the house and three vehicles that were parked under the carport.  The remainder of the home suffered heavy smoke damage.  A house located next door to the carport suffered minor fire and heat damage.  The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the family.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  No injuries were reported.
