Fire Board Selects New Fire Chief

Slidell, LA. – The St. Tammany Fire District #1 Fire Board has selected a new
Fire Chief.  After a lengthy testing and interview process, Chris Kaufmann was
chosen for the position.  Chief Kaufmann has been with the department for
25 years, in 5 different positions.  He has worked his way up through the
ranks from firefighter to his most recent position, Chief of Administration,
and has been a tremendous asset to the department.

Chief Kaufmann holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technologies from
Delgado Community College.  In addition, Chief Kaufmann has numerous
fire-related certifications in various areas of training in the fire service.
Chief Kaufmann also serves on several fire-related Associations throughout
the state.

Chief Kaufmann serves several nonprofit organizations throughout the community.
He received the 2012 Health Care Hero Award presented by the Northshore City
business.  He was also selected in 2013 for The Hidden Hero award presented
by the United Way serving St. Tammany Parish.

Under his leadership, Chief Kaufmann’s top priority will be “the safety of our
firefighters and the over 85,000 people that we serve”.  Chief Kaufmann will
continue to pursue an improvement in the department’s fire rating, which will
lead to a possible reduction in insurance rates for homeowners and business
owners.

Chief Kaufmann and his wife Pam have been married for 26 years and have two
children, Blaine and Bryce.
