Firefighters Respond to a Residential Structure Fire

Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to the report of a residential structure
fire at 59470 N. Pearl Dr. in Slidell.  Firefighters arrived on the scene in 6 minutes and 7
seconds to find light to moderate smoke coming from a 425 square foot residence.  Engine 14
was the first to arrive on the scene and immediately made an aggressive fire attack. 
Captain Lionel Baker and Firefighter Cody Knecht pulled a 200’ pre-connect cross lay hose and
began to extinguish the fire while Fire Operator Walter Allen supplied them with water.  The
fire was located in the laundry room coming from the dryer.  Firefighters were able to
extinguisher the fire within 11 minutes of arriving on the scene.

The tenant was in the living room when she smelled something burning and discovered smoke
coming from the dryer.  The tenant and her child were able to safely evacuate the residence. 
She then called her husband who called 911.  There was minor fire and smoke damage in the
laundry room.  The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
