Structure Fire at 1729 Old Spanish Trail

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 personnel responded to a report of a residential structure fire one block North of Faith Drive off of Old Spanish Trail at approximately 4:30 pm on December 10, 2010. Within 7 minutes of the initial dispatch, units were able to locate the fire at 1729 Old Spanish Trail. The first unit to arrive on scene reported a 1000 square foot fully involved structure fire with flames showing.

Units were able to bring the fire under control within 12 minutes. Initially, firefighters took a defensive approach utilizing two 1 ¾” hose lines to knock down the fire from the exterior using water from a fire hydrant located on Old Spanish Trail. After knocking the fire down, firefighters made entry into the structure and performed a search for occupants. It was confirmed through a search of the structure that no one was inside. Firefighters then entered the structure to completely extinguishing the fire.

The property is reportedly owned by Martha Jones and had a for sale sign in the front yard. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire.

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 Fire Prevention Officers and Slidell Police Department Personnel remained on scene to conduct an investigation as to the origin and cause of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
