Slidell Knights of Columbus Honor Firefighter of the Year Ray Pearce

On Saturday December 18, 2010 the Knights of Columbus Slidell Council 2732 honored St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 Firefighter Ray Pearce as their Firefighter of the Year. The ceremony was held a the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 1578 West Hall Avenue at 6:30pm.

Firefighter Pearce was only five months out of the training academy when he and his crew responded to a call on January 26, 2009 in which a vehicle was submerged in a local area lake with two entrapped persons. Firefighter Pearce, Captain Matt Parish and Operator/Paramedic Kris Remerow dove to the bottom of the lake and extricated the two young victims.

With minimal experience, Firefighter Pearce conducted himself in a manner that was commensurate with a seasoned veteran of the fire service. Without regard for his own safety Firefighter Pearce entered the cold, dark and unforgiving water in an effort to save the lives of those trapped in the vehicle that left the road and entered the lake. St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 is proud to have Firefighter Ray Pearce as a member of the department. His courageous and unselfish actions serve as an example to us all.
