We protect 186 square miles (121 square miles inhabited, 65 square miles of wetlands) and a population of approximately 110,000.
We have a total of 211 employees.
Currently we have one female firefighter-we encourage women who are interested to apply! We have three women in administration and 13 women in communications including two Shift Supervisors.

We have a Chief of Fire Prevention, an Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention/PIO and 6 full time Fire Prevention Officers (two per shift) commissioned by the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office to conduct Building Inspections and Code Enforcement on behalf of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Fire Protection District No.1. Our Fire Prevention officers also provide year round Public Education and are responsible for Fire and Arson Investigations.
Our fire department currently has 9 permanent Fire Stations, a Training Academy, Maintenance Facility, Headquarters and a satellite classroom at the Textron facility. Our Communications Division is located in the St. Tammany Parish 911 Communications Center in Lacombe and dispatches for all 12 fire protection districts in the parish, the Covington Fire Department and the Coroner’s Office.
We responded to a total of 10,157 calls in 2024.
We have a total of 46 Emergency Medical Responders, 102 Emergency Medical Technicians and 25 Paramedics. In 2024 we responded to medical calls.
All fires are investigated for origin and cause determination including arson. In 2024 FD1 responded to 264 fires.
In 2024 the 171 firefighters trained to the Operations Level and 75 Hazmat Technicians of FD1 responded to 10 hazardous materials incidents.
The last fire fatality occurred on 04/08/2021.

The City of Slidell has a “No Burn” ordinance within the City Limits enforced by STFPD1. Open burning of leaves, trash (not household garbage) and yard debris such as pine needled, pine cones, shrubs, brush and cut timber is permitted in the unincorporated areas of St. Tammany Parish if Parish Open Burning guidelines are adhered to. NOTE: If a fire is deemed to be a risk to health or safety it will be extinguished by the fire department regardless of compliance with the Parish Burn Ordinance.
