Firefighters Quick Actions Prevent Kitchen Fire from Spreading to 
Additional Apartments
Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to a commercial 
structure fire at 657 Carnation Dr. in Slidell.  Firefighters arrived 
on the scene in just over 4 minutes to find smoke coming from a 3600 
square foot 4 unit apartment building.  One of the downstairs apartments 
had smoke coming from the front door.  Firefighters were able to quickly 
extinguish the fire and bring the situation under control within 
5 minutes of arriving on the scene.
The occupant was outside speaking with a neighbor when she noticed 
smoke coming out of the front door.  A passerby called 911 from a cell 
phone.  The 900 square foot apartment received moderate fire damage to 
the kitchen and moderate smoke damage throughout the rest of the apartment.  
There was no smoke or fire damage to any of the other apartments.  The 
blaze was caused by a frying pan that was left unattended on the stove.  
The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the occupants.  
No injuries were reported.
