Firefighters Respond to a Fully Engulfed Vehicle Fire
Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to a fully engulfed
vehicle fire near the corner of Rue Rochelle and Rue Miramon in Slidell.
Engine 17 arrived on the scene within 5 minutes and 30 seconds to find intense
flames and billowing smoke coming from the vehicle. Captain Kenneth Smith and
Firefighter Devon Kennedy pulled a 100’ pre-connect cross lay hose and began to
extinguish the fire while Fire Operator Jason Theriot supplied them with water.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 6 minutes of arriving
on the scene.
The owner reported that smoke started coming out of the dash of the 2003 Toyota
Camry. The owner was able to safely evacuate the vehicle and call 911 from a cell
phone. Officers with the Slidell Police Department assisted firefighters by
shutting off traffic to the street. The fire is believed to have been caused by
an electrical short inside the dash. No injuries were reported.
