Slidell, LA.-St. Tammany Fire District#1 responded to a residential structure fire at 1567 Ridgecrest Dr. in the Lakewood subdivision. Firefighters arrived on the scene in a little over 6 minutes to find smoke showing from a 1300 square foot single story residence. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 5 minutes of arriving on the scene.
The tenants were gone at the time of the fire. Firefighters pulled 3 cats and a dog from the residence and attempted to resuscitate them. They were successful in saving the dog.
The cause of the blaze appears to have been a pot that overheated on the stove. There was heavy fire damage to the kitchen and moderate smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the residence. No injuries were reported.
