Olde Towne Slidell…Club Phoenix Nightclub Fire
At approximately 5:15 pm on Sunday evening St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 personnel responded to the report of a fire at the Club Phoenix located at 227 Cousin Street in Olde Towne Slidell.
Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Due to the progress of the fire prior to their arrival, the construction of the building and the proximity of adjacent buildings fire officials initiated suppression tactics designed to extinguish the flames while protecting the nearby businesses and residences.
Approximately 30 fire department personnel along with personnel from the City of Slidell, Slidell Police Department, Acadian Ambulance, Cleco and Atmos Energy responded to the scene. There were four casualties reported by Fire District No. 1 including two injuries and and two personnel who suffered from heat stress and dehydration. All four injuries reported are believed to be minor allowing the firefighters to return to work on their next shift.
The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour; however, several more hours were required to extinguish hot spots and secure the scene. The last fire department personnel left the area at 11:23 pm.
According to Chief of Fire Prevention Neil Ricca the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time as fire department investigators have not completed their investigation.
