During the City Council meeting of 12/09/2008, the council re-appointed Mr. Mike Rich and appointed Mr. Kevin Kingston, Jr. to our Board of Commissioners. Mr. Kingston will replace Ms. Wynn Williams who withdrew her name from consideration for re-appointment. Chief Kaufmann and I will spend this Friday providing Mr. Kingston with his commissioner orientation. He and his wife, Amanda, will join us later that evening at our Awards and Recognitions Ceremony where I will introduce him more formally. We will welcome Mr. Kingston and he will take his seat on our Board during the January meeting, 01/19/2009.
While a member of our BOC Ms. Williams added tremendous value to the team that oversees our fine fire department. She has been a person who has posed the “hard question” and expected and assisted us in reaching the difficult goals that we have achieved during her tenure on the board. She has been supportive of the progressive profile that we have adopted with respect to the operating philosophy of our fire department. Ms. Williams spent more personal time than just attending the monthly meeting in making sure that she fully understood many of the financial details and operating needs that are presented to the commissioners at their meeting.
Ms. Williams will be profoundly missed. She is a person of conviction and courage and served our fire district and the entire community in an exemplary manner.
Next Tuesday, December 16th, will be the last meeting where she will serve as a commissioner. If you have the opportunity to attend please do so as it will provide you an opportunity to personally thank her for her unselfish service.
