Mobile Home Fire Claims the Life of an Elderly Man

Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to the report of a
residential structure fire at 37432 E. Hillcrest Dr. in Slidell with a possible
occupant trapped inside.  Firefighters arrived on the scene in less than four
minutes to find heavy flames and smoke coming from a mobile home.  Firefighters
were alerted by an occupant that a roommate was trapped inside.  Firefighters
made an immediately rescue attempt, however the victim had already perished.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in eight minutes and bring the
situation under control.

A neighbor saw smoke coming from a bedroom window and alerted the other occupant,
who was outside at the time and called 911 from a cell phone.  The 720 square
foot mobile home suffered heavy fire damage to one bedroom.  The remainder of
the home suffered heavy smoke and heat damage.

St. Tammany Fire District #1 investigators were assisted by a State Fire Marshal
