Arson Fire Badly Damages Abandoned Home

Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to the report of a structure fire at 406 Ormond Dr. in the Magnolia Forest Subdivision. Firefighters arrived on the scene in 7 minutes to find a 3000 square foot home with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were able to bring the fire under control within 13 minutes of arriving on the scene.
The fire was reported by neighbors who heard a loud explosion and then noticed thick black smoke coming from the rear of the home. Neighbors reported seeing kids fleeing the scene just prior to the fire. Approximately fifty percent of the home was heavily damaged by the fire, while the remaining half was heavily damaged by smoke.  The cause of the fire is arson and the investigation is ongoing at this time. No injuries were reported.
