Early Morning Garage Fire Damages Condominium

Slidell, LA. – St. Tammany Fire District #1 responded to the report of a residential structure
fire at 104 Short St. in Slidell.  Firefighters arrived on the scene in 10 minutes to find
heavy smoke coming from the garage of a 2400 square foot single story condominium duplex.
Firefighters made quick entry into the garage of one of the units and were able to e
extinguish the fire within 20 minutes of arrival.

The owner, whose garage was on fire, was awoken by the smell of smoke and a noise coming
from the garage.  The owner went to investigate and discovered heavy smoke and flames in
the garage.  She was able to safely evacuate the residence and call 911 from a cell
phone.  The occupants in the adjacent unit were also able to safely evacuate their
residence.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  No injuries were reported.
