Firefighters Save Boy’s Finger

On Tuesday January 22, 2013 around 9:30pm Jennifer & Lee Williams showed up at the
Central Fire Station in Old Towne Slidell with their 4 ½ year old son Nash looking for
help.  Nash’s pinky finger was stuck in a shower drain cover.  According to Mrs. Williams,
Nash was taking a shower when a lego toy he was playing with went down the drain.  When
Nash tried to retrieve the lego his pinky finger became stuck in the drain.  His father,
Lee Williams, popped the drain cover off with a screw driver and unsuccessfully attempted
to dislodge his finger. They then decided to take a chance and drove to the fire station
looking for help.

Captain Ronnie Brennan and the crew of firefighters knew just what to do.  Approximately
three months ago, the fire department purchased a piece of equipment called a Ring Cutter
for situations such as this one.  It took Captain Brennan and the crew less than ten minutes
to safely remove the drain cover from Nash’s finger.  Mrs. Williams says that Nash is doing
fine and they are all grateful to the firefighters.   Captain Brennan and the crew have
invited the Williams family to come back to the fire station for a private tour at a later date.
